The
Estacion Biologica El Refugio (14'45 S, 61' 00 W) is a 50,000 ha reserve adjacent
to and partially overlapping the Parque Nacional Noel Kempff Mercado in northeastern
Bolivia. El Refugio is located in a climatic and biogeographic transition zone
between the moist Amazonian forests and dry forests and grasslands characteristic
of the Cerrado and Chaco. There is relatively easy access to many different
habitat types from the main camp, located along the banks of the Río
Paraguá. El Refugio is a small station capable of housing a maximum of
